Irit Abir is an Israeli architect and designer, based in Tel Aviv.

Graduate of the Faculty of Architecture, Technion, Haifa (1989-1994). Owner of a design studio (since 2007). Studio specializes in residential and public buildings and interior design projects within Israel.

Studio is also involved in various art projects: illustration, photography and design. In recent years, the studio concentrates on the study of re-cycling and re-purposing, assemblage of ready-mades, industrial junk and found objects. In 2009, launched garage Judaica, a line of custom made, one-piece objects, re-purposed and assembled, using industrial materials and ready-mades, rather than traditional materials, creating a sustainable, modern interpretation of shape and form of Jewish ritual objects. Exhibits in various musueums and galleries, including the Museum of Jewish People at Beit Hatfutsot, Tel Aviv; the Jerusalem Biennale, The gallery at the Architects’ House, Jaffa, Museum of Philistine Culture, Ashdod and more.

במקביל לתכנון אדריכלי, יוצרת כל השנים בתחומי אמנות נוספים: עיצוב, צילום, איור. עוסקת בחיבורים של חומרים ורדי-מיידס, ובחקר פיזי של המונח ‘מיחזור’ כשימוש מחדש וייעוד מחודש של אובייקטים. במסגרת זו פותח פרויקט גראז’ יודאיקה העוסק במשמעותם של חפצי יודאיקה בזהות יהודית-תרבותית. זו סדרת אובייקטים שמוחזרו ושינו ייעודם, המהווה אינטרפרטציה חילונית בת-זמננו ובת-קיימא למבנה וצורה של תשמישי פולחן טקסי יהודי. בתהליך נעשה שימוש מושכל בחומרים מתועשים וב”רדי-מיידס”, ולא בחומרים המסורתיים המקובלים. מציגה בתערוכות ומוזיאונים שונים, כולל בבית התפוצות, הביאנלה של ירושלים, המוזיאון לתרבות הפלשתים באשדוד, הגלריה בבית האדריכל ת”א-יפו, שבוע האיור ת”א, גלריה החווה בחולון ועוד.
